Day 9 - Let’s Read
Reading for me always led to inspiration and to take actions. Right from childhood my parents encouraged me to read stories, cartoons especially tinkle and Amar Chitra Katha. I remember during one time on a trip with of my family and cousins when everyone were busy buying things at the market, I asked my dad “Where’s the book store? I want to buy Tinkle". It was a moment to remember as I saw everyone laughing around me. I could recall me and my sister taking turns to complete reading Harry Potter series and the memories still afresh. We had a library close to our home where we used to rent out books for Rs. 1 a day. I also used to pick story books from the school library so that I could read them during my holidays. When most of them were out playing I was busy engaged in a story. So the fascination for reading had always been there.
Probably it descended from my grandfather who was an advocate and he always told us stories and was highlighting the importance of reading books. He was the inspiration for me to start my own library. He had a small metal frame shelf with 3 layers and he had clearly segregated his law books with the other books. Right now I have a library of my own at my office and home and collectively I have more than 500+ books including my Grandfather’s and my Father’s collection. My Grandfather was a voracious reader and her enjoyed it so much so that he even asked us to implement and it got into his son and his grandson as well and that’s how me and my sister picked it up.
For the first time in my life I have read as many as 200+ books over the last 3 years. That is almost reading 1 book per week, but the odds of learning has been better as I expanded it to 2 books per week from this year onwards. So why read? It is proven that brain is the only organ in the body that keep growing till you are 33 years of age. I am 31 as I am writing this post and I would definitely want to gain more knowledge before my brain starts decomposing. As they say in the old times travel the world and read books well I am doing something right. I have been reading a lot of books of different genres.
My genre of books include:
It has been nearly a week since we had the newspaper at our place owing it to the decision by the Government to not circulate. The good thing was that the newspaper was back from past 2 days and we fight for who gets to read it first. The pages have been reduced to 16 and the last 3 pages are for sports and entertainment.
Why just wait for the newspaper to arrive or not arrive when you can read your books the one’s which were purchased and not read. You can read the books either through hard bound copies or through e-books. I personally prefer the hard bound over e-book considering we spend more time on cellphones. So let’s read, let’s expand our knowledge.
