Day 32 - Help Yourself

We have been fighting all through our life one way or the other to setting our personal life to making a career. In one way or the other we all have overcome a lot of barricades in our life. Though childhood we are guided by our teachers, elders, friends and family to learn things and to become who we are today. They definitely have played a vital role in our life. Have we ever thought if we had any contribution in this ? If you ask me, I would say yes we do. Most of the times we forgot our own contribution to be who we are today. 

Today’s interesting topic makes us all wonder, including me, how can we help ourself. In order to achieve something you need motivation, inspiration and action to reach the goal. How often can others support for your cause or your goal. They might motivate you, suggest, guide or even support you to an extent. But it is the action you do that will make the goal reachable. To illustrate this, I will tell you about a person who wants to be a swimmer. Now this person can be told how to swim, how deep is the water, how cold is the water, how lengthy is the pool, what to do and what not to do. But until and unless this person gets into the water and learns for himself he cannot be a swimmer. Individual actions taken by self will help in the process of gaining experiences. I always tell this to people who ask me how I cultivated certain good habits and they ask my assistance for their habits to improve. I can motivate them, guide them and tell them and all. But it’s them who have to do it at the end of the day. Take up responsibility for yourself to be a better version of yourself.

It also comes to the point, what this particular thing means to you. Like for example, I am into writing, I have a compelling reason and burning desire to write. Then all others come as an added benefit. The external benefit will be a catalyst in your action towards your goals. It is never too late to start something, but it's too late if you depend on others to push your own goals. Nothing is permanent, so all those advices have an expiry date, as soon as it gets over it will be you alone battling. So it's better to cultivate the habit of helping yourself. Great leaders, celebrities, sportsmen, athletes and achievers are those who are self-motivators and take actions that make them become who they truly want to be.

Many interactions with people have taught me, that no matter how much you motivate them, it’s difficult to make them realize their efforts to help their goals. Over a period of time, I have reduced to give suggestions to people but always have been a person who motivated and inspired people by first doing it myself. I read in a book sometime earlier that if you want to be a leader, you have to be a follower first and if you want to be something you wish to be, you have to be responsible. Accountability to one’s own action will play a bigger factor in becoming who you are. Everything lies within us, to become active or inactive is up to us. When you are at your weakest nobody will be there to lift you up, except for yourself. So be a care-taker for your won good. You might lose small wars but you will always win bigger battles in life, if you are capable of helping yourself. So be strong and help yourself.
