Day 8 - Around the Streets
As days pass by the boredom starts setting in the mind. The disruption of your usual routine of going out takes a toll. Our generation have never witnessed such a crisis ever before. I recall a conversation with my grandmother as she told stories about the World War. One such story told their fear of enemy planes flying above. When they were inside their home locked and would immediately run to the dugouts in the street by the sound of sirens. The sirens meant the enemy planes flying and could bomb or attack them anytime and the safest place was the dugouts. Imagining those times to now we are definitely lucky to not see any kind of war that meant living our life one day at a time. But this is a different threat altogether. You never know how it comes and how many lives it can take and the cure hasn’t been found yet. Some of the news and conversations with my friends tell me that the cure may take nearly 8 months to 1 year to be ready for shipment.
Today me and mom went to the flour mill and it was the best thing that happened to me after 2 and a half weeks. I was getting ready to take bath and mom asked me if I could accompany her to the mill. I was so excited that I gave up my bath for this. I got geared up, wore my mask and got the car out of the garage. Oh you can say I was excited as a kid that was treated with a candy.
As I drove from my home to the mill I was very curious to see the world around and watch everything as if seeing it for the first time. I was constantly looking to my right and left and was expecting to see if I could see something interesting. But sadly, nothing except for few vehicles on street and locked houses around. As we reached the place I was happy to hear a person other than my family talk to me. Te shopkeeper spoke like he was talking to me for the first time and I felt the same as well. But we weren’t first timers, I come regularly to this place. The mill had circles drawn outside for customers to wait and each circle was few meter away. I can never forget the 20 mins of my time I spent there. Probably this will be one of the best highlights of my quarantine days.
The roads were empty with barricades everywhere and the cops of the city doing their bit to protect the citizens from roaming unnecessarily. We often criticized, ridiculed and degraded our city police for a long time but the strength and vigor they have shown during times like this have made them heroes for life. We should always be forever indebted to their service. I salute to their bravery and courage despite the danger lurking large. The Doctors are the front end fighters saving lives and the police the warriors protecting the lives.
