Day 24 - Toys
Do you like toys ? Ofcourse you do and so does every child within us. Some of us give up loving toys when we grow older and act all mature, but not me. Others still hold on to it, I guess it makes them more adorable and cute. I love toys too, I love toy cars the small one’s especially. The following details that I am going to tell you will probably scare you or surprise you or even worse, make you think that I complete lunatic. No, no I cannot be a lunatic, it just does not fit my character. Well, let’s not wait any further and go to the topic.
My fascination for toy cars started when I was a kid. Back then my dad was working in the bank and we were transferred to Doddabalapur and we were staying in the ground floor at a rented house. The house had a beautiful garden and was taken care both by my mom and the owner. During one of my 5th year birthday, I was gifted with a toy Volkswagen van and a jeep by one of the people who had come to my birthday party. I started to relate to it and was playing with it all the time and sometimes sleeping with it. I used to play with it in the garden ground, as if it was going through a rough terrain. Finally I halted it at the water tap and was talking to myself telling it was a fountain and used to clean the toy car. Whenever I used to travel with my family I used to always look in the window to see what cars were coming and what cars were going. Sometimes I used to spot lorries and tractors being cleaned at the lake bed. I related to my toy cars and used to do the same whenever I used to play with them. As I grew older I started asking my guests during my birthday parties if they had bought me car as a gift not the money instead. They used to laugh and get me two cars the next birthday. Never did I ever damage my toy cars, I used to be gentle with it. I always used to play it imagining as a real car, stopping for fuel, parking at the house and things like that.
As time flew I had around 50 cars with me, mostly gifted and few bought. My cousins knew about this and they used to gift me whenever they traveled out of station. Somehow me and my toy cars were inseparable. We had all the time in the world and we were building a garage of our own or so as to say. I do not know how I grew up so soon, but now I was in college and I had to keep at all my toy cars either in a box or in the showcase. Keeping in showcase attracted kids to play with it and damage them. So I decided to keep all of them inside a box and tucked them away. Me and my toy cars broke for the first time and we got separated. They were in a box and I was busy chasing my education and later a career. It was not until I started working that I was reminded about my fascination for toy cars. One day, me and my colleagues went out to a mall for some Bowling time. After the game got over we were roaming around the mall. Something caught my attention while at the book store, it was my beloved, the toy cars. That day I bought around 25 cars from the store. My friends were puzzled and joked me as kid. But I love it my way, all the way. They could not relate to it and understand this part of me. It is this that defines who I am. After that day I reopened the old box and looked at each and every car and felt a moment of reconnection. We were back in the business baby. It’s been a while now and people remember me for my attraction to toy cars, they even call me crazy. If there’s two things that I am drawn to and can’t resist, they are toy cars and books. As of today, I have close to about 200 toy cars, some in my room, kitchen, my office and sometimes I keep one in my pocket. The next time you see me you can ask me what toy car am I holding, I will show you. This is my toy, what’s yours ?
