Day 22 - It’s Morning right ?
Another story on your way during this lockdown and here we go. It's my dad’s story and he is the hero once again. My family believes in working together to complete the chores from cooking to cleaning and others. I am the one who usually keeps the milk bag at the door everyday and mom is the first person to be awake at home. Mom always starts her day with a coffee at the kitchen. During our quarantine period we have been watching movies in the afternoon and every time after half an hour dad is the one who goes back to his room and start snoring. Me and mom would continue to watch, dad would join us later in the evening for snacks and some lemon tea. A little bit more about my dad, he is a disciplined person and he always makes sure to follow up with any pending chores.
So this happened yesterday when we finished our lunch and settled down to watch a movie. We were watching a Malayalam movie and dad was snoring big time at 2:30 in his room. I politely closed the door and continued to watch the movie with mom. Mom had something to grind and I had to get the clothes which had been put for drying, so we took a break in between the movie. Soon we were close to the end of the movie and paused once more to eat some snacks and coffee to drink. It was around 6 and dad came out of his room and sees us both and asks me, “It’s still dark” and I replied “yeah”. He went to the bathroom and soon we could hear him brush his teeth. I was not sure since I was watching the movie and kept my confusion under wraps. He comes back from the bathroom and sees the clock nearing 6:15 and asks me once again, “It’s 6:15 and still dark how come?” and I replied with just “Ofcourse” since I was concentrating on the movie, I did not find it odd at that time.
He walked for 5 minutes across the hall and I saw him take the milk bag to the entrance and I asked him, “Why are you keeping the milk bag so early?” and he responded, “It’s already late and you have not kept it”. Honestly speaking I was confused and for a moment I thought something was wrong. I thought he was getting bored all day at home and wanted to do things early. I asked mom, “Why is he keeping the milk bag so early?” and she replied, “Who knows”. Now he went to his room and started to ask the most weird question to my mom, “Shobha, why is it still dark?” and mom paused watching the movie and turned towards the room. It was at this same time there was scene in the movie where the protagonist talks about Alzheimers. I paused the movie and turned towards mom she was still looking at the room waiting for dad to come out, but he asked the same question again. I got nervous and asked my dad out of sheer doubt, “What day do you think it is ?” and he replied, “It’s morning right?” I laughed for a bit and told him, “Its evening dad, check your phone” and I went to his room. As he saw his mobile screen he realized he had mistook the present to be next day morning. Me and mom were laughing and asked him what was wrong. He later told us that due to over sleeping in the afternoon, he forgot what time of the day it was. He narrated the story again of how he brushed the teeth, thinking it was morning and went to the bathroom. Me and mom later suggested him to sleep the night in the room and evening in the hall. This was an incredible confusion of epic sorts and I can’t forget this day in my life. Also I was scared for a bit with his sudden loss of memory. But rest assured he is in safe hands with me and mom and nothing to worry. Even today while me and mom were at the dining table we were teasing him asking, “What time of the day is it?"
Signing off for today
