Day 14 - Dalgona Coffee and Goa Trip
Goa Trip
Let me tell you a funny incident that happened recently. All names mentioned are fictional however the story is real. I will give the context before any confusions occur in your mind. So Girish and Manoj are my Dad’s friends and they along with 10 others had been to Goa last month on a trip. No sooner did they arrive back to Bangalore the lockdown was announced. Girish is an alcoholic and cannot complete his day without downing a peg. So here is the story now. I heard my dad at dining table talking to his friend over the call.
Dad “Hey Manoj, how are you doing ?”
Manoj “Can’t even go out of the house, this Corona has created a problem for all of us”
Dad “Yeah. The roads looks so empty”
Manoj “It is very quiet here. By the way have anybody else called from our gang?"
Dad “Girish had called, he was crying”
Manoj “What happened to him?”
Dad “We went to Goa last month right, he bought 2 bottles of Whisky and gave it away to his friends. His stock at home is over, I shouldn't have gifted those 2 bottles to my friends”
Manoj “Haha. Even the liquor shops are closed during this lockdown”
Dad “He had told his friends the bottles were not a gift, it was sold to them and now they have to return back it seems. I could not control my laughter”
Manoj “Hahaha”
Dalgona Coffee
I always wanted to try out things and be adventurous in life. I always attracted it in my life and somehow I learnt more about myself. Today was an epic failure of all sorts. So there is a lot of hype across the globe about a cold beverage called Dalgona coffee. I came to know about it only when one of my friend messaged me on Instagram recently saying “I am tired of seeing this picture everywhere. Help me” It got me curious to know more about this. I started watching videos and links about this coffee. It was so simple and yet the word to be pronounced sounded like a tough cookie to crack.
So I took up the challenge to prove myself that I can do it and it was not a big deal. I started preparing in my mind from past 2 days, telling my parents that I will be making Dalgona coffee. At one point I had to clarify my Dad that it was Dalgona and not Dunzona. Today was the day I finally decided I will go for the kill. My mom reminded me in the evening and I was already in the kitchen finding my ingredients. I put 2 table spoon of coffee on a glass jar, 2 table spoon of sugar and finally 2 table spoon of hot water in this order. I started stirring, it was 1 hr and I was still stirring and nothing happened. The dark colored mixture was to turn to a cream color paste but it was still dark and watery. Finally when I told my mom that it wasn’t working she told me “Maybe you should have used an instant coffee powder” What really ? I went on to YouTube video and saw the ingredients list and it said Nescafe instant coffee. I face palmed and went away from the kitchen disappointed. I was reading a novel later in the evening in my room and I could hear my Dad ask my Mom, “Hey, what happened to Dunzona coffee ?”
